シチズンの「ツノクロノ カスタム」が、公益財団法人日本デザイン振興会主催のグッドデザイン賞を受賞。1970年代に登場したクロノグラフ付き腕時計「ツノクロノ」を現代的に再解釈したこのモデルは、独自のデザインを継承しつつ、快適で日常的に使いやすい仕様へと進化している。
「ツノクロノ」の名は、ケース上部に配置されたプッシュボタンがツノのように見えることから名付けられた。今回の「ツノクロノ カスタム」では、オリジナルの機械式からクォーツ式にアップデートされ、時代に合った機能とスタイルが融合したモデルとなっている。
審査委員からは、「過去のアーカイブを活用して新たな価値を創出するこの取り組みは、製品開発において今後ますます重要なテーマとなるだろう」との評価が寄せられた。また、時計が時刻を知らせる機能から、所有する喜びや満足感を提供するアイテムとしての進化を遂げていることも高く評価された。
この受賞モデル「ツノクロノ カスタム」は、2024年11月1日から11月5日まで東京ミッドタウンで開催されるグッドデザイン賞受賞展「GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2024」で展示される。

Citizen’s “TSUNO CHRONO Custom” Wins Good Design Award and Will Be Exhibited
Citizen’s “TSUNO CHRONO Custom” has won the prestigious Good Design Award, organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. This modern reinterpretation of the original “TSUNO CHRONO” chronograph from the 1970s maintains its unique design while enhancing everyday comfort and usability.
The nickname “TSUNO CHRONO” derives from the horn-like push buttons on the top of the case. In this updated version, the watch transitions from a mechanical movement to a quartz system, blending classic style with modern functionality.
The Good Design Award jury praised Citizen’s use of archival designs to create new products, stating, “Leveraging past archives to generate new value is a forward-thinking approach that will become increasingly vital in product development.” The watch was also recognized for embodying the shift from a timekeeping device to an item that brings joy and satisfaction through ownership.
The award-winning “TSUNO CHRONO Custom” will be displayed at the GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2024, held from November 1 to November 5, 2024, at Tokyo Midtown.
